| 30 Chain Enterprises of China Keeping a Steady Growth in the First Half Year 2005 |

According to survey by MOFCOM department of commercial reform and development, chain enterprises of China kept a steady growth in the first half year 2005, sales of 30 national chain enterprises reached RMB236.53 billion, up by 29.9% compared with the same period of last year, number of stores were 13476, up by 21.2%, and sales of direct sales stores were RMB201.5 billion, accounting for 85.2% of total revenue. Shanghai Brilliance (Group) Co., Ltd. ranked top nationwide with a sales revenue of RMB36.49 billion and 5910 stores, up by 13.7% and 23% respectively compared with the same period of 2004. Guomei Appliance Co., Ltd. Suning Appliance China Store (Group) Co., Ltd., Dashang Group (Dalian), Carrefour China ranked No. 2 to 5 with revenue of RMB19.57 billion, RMB17.83 billion, RMB12.95 billion and RMB10.23 billion respectively.
Development Features of the 30 national chain enterprises in the first half year 2005 were:
1, Business scope kept expanding but growth rate slowed down.
In general, sales revenue of 30 chain enterprises accounted for 7.99% of total retail sales of consumer goods, up by 1.2% compared with the same period of 2004. Sales of 5 of chain enterprises realized RMB10 billion and 17 of them exceeded RMB5 billion, 3 and 6 more than that in 2004. In the first half year 2004, sales of the chain store at place of No. 30 were RMB2.1 billion, but RMB2.8 billion in the same period of 2005. Statistics in recent years showed that most of the top 30 enterprises were in a situation of steady business and became bellwether enterprises in chain business in China.
In the aspect of growth margin, the average growth rates of the number and sales revenue of the 30 chain enterprises were 29.9% and 21.2% in the first half year 2005, lightly went down compared with that in the first half year 2004.
2, Various industries developed steadily.
3, Foreign investment chain enterprises maintained rapid development.
It is predicted that sales of top 30 chain enterprises in 2005 would be further expanded and amount to RMB500 billion, up by about 25% compared with that in 2004.
