Hungary is located in Carpathian basin the heart of Europe continent covering an area of 93030 square kilometers with a population of 10.07 thousands (Jan.2006). Hungary is one of the most important economic and trade partners for China in Central and Eastern European and it is the place where most Chinese organizations and companies concentrated in within this region.
Following the official visit of President Hu Jingtao to Hungary in June 2004, two countries decided to established Friendship and Cooperation Partner relationship, which settled a solid base for future development of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
The Chinese-Hungarian Bilingual School has been established in Budapest through mutual efforts, which helped resolve the problem that Chinese investors’ children receive education locally. Bank of China opened its branch bank in Budapest as the first one in Central and Eastern Europe. Hainan Airlines operated its non-stop flight lines between Beijing and Budapest. Chinese Hisense Group Corporation established TV factory in Hungary.
Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc GYURCSANY paid a working visit to China in September 2005 and opened the Hungarian Economy and Cultural Week in China. The long established political relations between two countries and frequent mutual visits of high level officials have steadily pushed the further development of bilateral economic and trade relations. According to China Customs statistics, the trade volume between China and Hungary has achieved 3.987 billion US dollars in 2006 with an increase of 39.5% than 2005. The composition of commodities has been further improved. Mutual investments and cooperation projects developed smoothly.
Hungary accessed to EU in May 2004, which has provided more business opportunities for mutual cooperation in various fields. At present companies from both countries have developed cooperation in fields of finance, aviation, tourism, logistics, household electrical appliance, telecommunication and heavy industries towards multiple levels and diversities.
As the window of Chinese Government in charge of foreign economic and trade cooperation, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office in Hungary will commit itself to develop mutual economic and trade relations and serve companies from both countries, so as to contribute to the persistent fast and stable development of mutual economy and trade relations.
